Value Beyond Minerals means…respect.
Unimin has made environmental stewardship a cornerstone of its management philosophy since its inception in 1970. While compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory and statutory requirements has always been a mandatory operating objective, our intention is to exceed these requirements through our Continuous Improvement Process (CIP). Environmental stewardship is a corporate sustainability initiative intended to "take demonstrable steps worldwide to improve Unimin's overall environmental performance".
74% of Unimin's mine sites are certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council and 14% are certified Corporate Lands for Learning.
Managing resources responsibly, efficiently utilizing water and energy assets, and minimizing emissions and wastes have always been an integral part of our business strategy. We view resource management, and especially land utilization, as the long term sustainability plan for company and community natural assets. In stark contrast to alternate development projects, mining is a transitional process that ultimately returns the land and associated environmental assets to an ecologically appropriate landscape. Unimin applies its continuous improvement process to all aspects of resource management and utilization; tailoring our best practices to plan, manage and restore mining operations.
